How to report concerns about an adult

My Way

Members of the public

If you have concerns about an adult in Trafford, aged 18 or over, and you are worried that they are being harmed or are at risk of harm, please ring 0161 912 5135 to discuss your concerns. If you prefer you can complete the Safeguarding Adults: Public Concern Form.

If you need to report something out of hours, contact the Emergency Duty Team on 0161 912 2020 or at edt@trafford.gov.uk.

It is very important that if you think a crime has been committed, or something is happening now, and it is urgent, that you phone the Police on 101. If someone is in immediate danger and/or emergency services are needed, dial 999.

Professionals

Practitioners, professionals, staff and volunteers can contact the Community Screening Team at Trafford Council to discuss concerns about an adult on 0161 912 2820.  To make a referral, you can complete the Adult Safeguarding Concern - Referral Form.

Worried about a child

If you have concerns about the safety of a child or young person please contact the Multi Agency Referral and Assessment team (MARAT).

TARGet (Trafford Adults at Risk Group)

This is the multi-agency group, led by Greater Manchester Police, supported by NHS agencies in Trafford, Trafford Council and the Probation Service. It has been set up to reach out to Trafford Adults at Risk who fall outside of the usual "safeguarding" categories.

These might be vulnerable adults, of any age, who you know of living in your local community (if you are a resident) or identified through your practice (if you are a professional). These vulnerable people may be experiencing low level harm, harassment, name calling or physical harm at the hands of other people. This low level harm can quickly escalate to become more serious and potentially dangerous. This is what we aim to stop, through careful, targeted action.

Alternatively, these may be adults who themselves are vulnerable. They may be users of substances, alcohol or be mentally and/or physically unwell. They may also be using health services, including mental health crisis services, the emergency department or GP services frequently. They may make frequent contacts with the police service or are at risk from "Mate Crimes" or other forms of abuse and exploitation by unscrupulous people in their local communities. Through careful, targeted action we want to reach out to offer support to these very vulnerable people. To do this, we need your help.

If there is someone you are concerned about, then please use the Trafford Adults at Risk (TARGet) referral form  You must have permission from the person to refer them to TARGet.

Domestic abuse

If you are a professional supporting a family and you have concerns about domestic abuse you can make a referral using the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference Referral Form (MARAC) form.

Trafford Public Protection Investigation Unit

The Adult Safeguarding Concern - Referral Form should also be completed when a crime is suspected. Please e-mail this referral form to the Public Protection Investigation Unit: Trafford.PPIU@gmp.pnn.police.uk

If this referral requires a more urgent police response, please contact the Public Protection Investigation Unit on 0161 856 7584/7577 or the main Greater Manchester Police switchboard on 0161 872 5050.

Mental capacity assessment

Trafford Council has a Capacity Assessment form for professionals relating to the Mental Capacity Act. This form is to be completed when key decisions and actions are taken by a professional on a person's behalf when they do not have the capacity to decide for themselves.
