Home care

If you feel you need support in your home you may want to get help from a home care agency.

A home care agency can arrange for someone to come to your home. They may help you with:

  • personal care, such as washing or dressing
  • housekeeping, such as laundry and cleaning
  • cooking or preparing meals
  • nursing and health care
  • companionship

All agencies helping with personal care in people's own homes are regulated by the Care Quality Commission. If you are looking for an agency yourself visit their website at where you will find general information, star ratings and copies of inspection reports. CQC have written a guide called 'What can you expect from a good home care agency?'. Finding out what good home care is like can help you to make choices about your care. It can also help you understand what you should be able to expect from a service you already use.
