Trainee Educational Psychologists: Trainee Educational Psychologists (TEPs) in years 2 and 3 of the doctoral training programme are placed with us for two years, we usually have two Trainee’s placed with us; trainees receive a high level of supervision and support from a qualified, experienced Educational Psychologist.

Assistant Educational Psychologists: we have an Assistant Educational Psychologist who supports our work with Trafford Virtual School; Assistants have a degree or masters qualification in Psychology.

Work with schools, colleges, and early years settings

Trafford Educational Psychology Service work with schools, colleges, other educational providers, early years settings and children’s services within the local authority through our Service Level Agreement (SLA) offer.

We follow an assess plan do review process which goes through the following stages in a cycle:

  • Assess: Gain a full understanding of the various aspects at play (child, school and family)
  • Plan: Based on information gathered - plan for a realistic small reintegration
  • Do: Ensure rsources and support is in place with good communication with school, family and others
  • Review: Monitor the pogress made and adjust the plan for next steps

We work at different levels, providing support to:

  • individual children and young people (casework)
  • groups of children through whole class interventions
  • vulnerable groups through support to the Virtual School
  • Early Years settings via the Feelgood Nursery offer

We also support at the level of the whole setting through delivery of training and projects, for example the Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) project.

Prioritising and types of work

Our work is prioritised and agreed during regular, termly consultations with key school staff. We may carry out direct individual assessments and/or interventions to support individual children or work in a consultative way with staff to support the needs of one child or a wider group of children.

Please note: As we are a traded service, commissioned by educational settings we are unable to take parental referrals, please talk to your school’s SENCo if you have concerns.

Individual assessment work can include class observations, consultations with teaching staff and parents/carers as well as work with other professionals where appropriate. Outcomes identified as the result of assessment are co-produced with parents and school staff.

Direct assessments are summarised in a report which is completed and circulated to schools, parents/carers, and other agencies as appropriate.
