URMSTON CHORAL BACK IN BUSINESS THIS CHRISTMAS
After a two-year gap since performing their last public concert due to Covid, Urmston Choral Society are back in business to present their Christmas spectacular in December.
Having not been allowed to meet as a singing group since March 2020 due to Covid restrictions, the Choir are delighted to be together again to raise the roof at a one-hour concert taking place at St. Matthew’s Church, Chapel Lane, Stretford, starting at 7pm on Saturday, December 11. There will be many traditional Christmas Carols but the event will also include music specially composed by the Choir’s accompanist, Gareth Curtis.
The concert will be free of charge but, as seating will be restricted, people wishing to attend are asked to book in advance by contacting choir member Maxine Summers on 0161 748 0903 or 0796 1121637. There will be a retiring collection for a local charity at the end of the concert. Refreshments will not be available.
Said the Choir’s Director of Music, Julie Parker: ‘‘The Choir are really excited to be singing together again after such a long absence. It gives us an opportunity to celebrate this very special time of year in the Christian calendar and brighten up people’s lives as Covid was such a difficult experience for many people.’’
Urmston Choral are always looking for tenor and bass voices so if you were ever in a choir, or fancy trying one now, the New Year could be a good time to start for next year’s concerts. Rehearsals are each Wednesday evening at Greenfield Church in Primrose Avenue, Urmston.
