Worsley College

Worsley College prides itself on its 100 years of educational excellence.

Worsley College has been committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities for almost 100-years. The college has recently been recognised for being the first Further Education establishment in the country to offer continuation courses for local businesses to train their apprentices, and the college puts community at the heart of all they do.

The college has a rich history of success across all qualifications. Last year they secured an incredible 100% Advanced Vocational pass rate with a great percentage of high grades achieved.

Ofsted: “The college has established a culture of high aspirations for student achievement. The high grades students achieve enable them to gain places at the most prestigious universities.”

The Ofsted rated 'Good' college has a long and successful history. Having first opened in 1919 as Worsley Technical School. It was then named Worsley Technical College in 1954 when the authorities decided it was solely to provide Further Education courses. In 1963 the college then became Worsley College of Further Education before Salford College was formed in 1990, and Worsley Campus was born. In 2009 five colleges in Salford merged to become Salford City College and Worsley Campus became Walkden Sixth Form Centre, until today.

In April of this year, at a special community event, the former Walkden Campus, was renamed Worsley College in honour of the establishment’s long heritage.

The town of Worsley is historic, famous for its Bridgewater Canal and the part it played in the industrial revolution. Worsley College has been part of the town history for a century and is well-known and well-respected in the community.

Worsley is known for its beauty, its leafy village environment, its canal walks, and above all else its sense of community.

On top of this, Worsley College is home to the modern and contemporary Glass House Restaurant.

The Glass House Restaurant is run by the college’s dedicated hospitality and catering students under the supervision of their expert teachers who have worked in some of the best-known hotels and restaurants in the country. The training establishment specialises in afternoon tea, 3-course, modern contemporary evening meals and lunches.

Open the public, the restaurant not only provides students at the college with the very best, most hands-on and real-life training experience, but also a chance for parents, and those from the local community to see the talent the college is cooking up in the way of young professionals.

Those who choose to study hair and beauty at Worsley College will benefit from training in the brand-new, industry standard, professional, Aspirations Salon. Aspirations is a state-of-the-art facility with the most up to date equipment and kit, designed specifically for quality training.

Treatments at the newly refurbished salons, which are open to the public during term time, include manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, waxing and hair services. These are all done by students at the college under the supervision of expert staff. The salons have recently been relaunched to the highest specifications, offering customers, and students alike, a tranquil and pleasant pampering experience.

Worsley College will be expanding its curriculum from September 2018 adding a range of new courses. For more information please click here.
