Community Orthoptic Service
The purpose of the service is to enable all children under 7 (and special needs children up to 19) to reach their maximum visual potential. The eyes and brain are still learning to see until 7 years so treatment including glasses wear, patching and exercises are carried out by the Orthoptists. There are also joint clinics with the Optometrists (Opticians) from the Eye Hospital who test the need for and strength of glasses required.
Children who need onward referral to an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) will be seen at the Childrens Resource Centre.
