Independent Travel Training (SEN)
We can offer travel training to young people in secondary schools with special needs in Trafford.
The training is designed to help young people to get more out of life by giving them the skills and confidence they need to travel independently by public transport.
Travel training aims to teach young people how to get to and from school by themselves, as well as preparing them for other journeys they will want to make as they get older.
We do this through one to one training in real life settings such as buses, trains and trams. We teach them the skills they need to use from planning their journey to actually doing it for themselves.
Each young person will have an individual package, developed according to their specific needs by one of our specialist travel trainers. The skills that will be taught include:
- Road safety
- How to plan a journey
- How to access buses and trams
- Learning routes and landmarks
- What to do in an emergency
