Trafford Early Development Service (TEDS) is part of Trafford Complex Needs Service in Trafford Local Care Organisation (TLCO)

Trafford Early Development Service (TEDS) are a team of health professionals, Specialist Health Visitors and Nursery Nurses. We are a registered Portage Service. We support Children and their families through Portage developmental play sessions in their home.

We support families in coordinating their child's care and arrange Team Around the Child meetings as needed. We work with other professionals involved in a child's care including Early Years settings.

We are able to offer this support to preschool children who have a significant developmental delay in 2 or more areas of their development and who have a Trafford GP.

Referral can be made by your Health Visitor, other health professional or your Early Years setting. When a referral for a child is accepted into our service we will contact the family and arrange a phone assessment to discuss how TEDS may be able to help. There is a waiting list for our service.

We will then agree with the family what support can be offered which may be monitoring of developmental progress, Portage developmental play sessions at home or sometimes in Early Years settings.

We use the Portage model which is a small steps approach to developmental play (www.portage.org.uk). TEDS Team Around the Child meetings can help to bring families together with professionals closely involved with their child to ensure good communication and coordination of care. We offer support and advice about transition into Early Years settings and advise on the support options available following on from our service.

TEDS aims to support children and their families to achieve a quality of life and for children to access and participate fully in play opportunities, educational and social settings and to develop to their full potential.
