Children's Intensive Behaviour Support Service (CIBSS)

About our service

The Children's Intensive Behaviour Support Service (CIBSS) is a part of Trafford Children's Learning Disability Nursing Team and the Learning Disability CAMHS Service. We are a small team of skilled staff that includes a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Learning Disability Nurse and an Assistant Psychologist.

What does CIBSS do?

The CIBSS offers an intensive home-based service for children with a severe learning disability and their families/carers.

What can families expect from us

The service will work with the child and their family/carers to:

  • Complete individualised Behavioural Assessments and a Functional Analysis.
  • Identify the behavioural issues and the emotional wellbeing of both the child and the family.
  • Develop strategies using evidence-based interventions and which are person-centered.
  • Provide intensive support by implementing behavioural plans alongside the parents/carers within the family home.
  • Work intensely with the family for an approximate time frame of 6 months.

The service will aim to be flexible around the needs of the child and the family regarding appointment times.

What do we expect from families?

The service requires the families to work in partnership with the CIBSS staff by:

  • Opting into the service following an initial assessment
  • Consenting to the collection of data regarding the behaviour displayed by their child. This is for the purpose of assessment.
  • Working in partnership with the CIBSS and incorporating the suggested implementation of strategies with support.
  • Committing to regular sessions with the CIBSS staff (on average 2-3 times per week)
