The Sanctuary Mental Health Crisis Support

We offer mental health crisis support overnight, from 8pm - 6am, to residents across Manchester - including Trafford. 

Our mental health crisis telephone line is open from 8pm - 6am. Following a conversation with trained Sanctuary staff, the caller will then be offered telephone support or they will be invited to come to The Sanctuary for one-to-one support.

Our service provides a place of safety and support, welcoming people experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, low mood and / or suicidal thoughts outside of usual office hours.

There are no beds at the Sanctuary so it is not a place to sleep over. But on the night you visit, you can stay as long as you wish before we close at 6am. You may choose to leave The Sanctuary once your initial crisis has passed and you feel calmer, or you may need to stay longer. The length of your stay will depend on your particular need.

The Sanctuary provides an important alternative to people who, in the past, have gone to A&E services when experiencing a mental health crisis during the night.

What happens next?

Everyone who accesses The Sanctuary will have a plan put in place for their support beyond their initial visit to the service. This may include for example, putting you in touch with other relevant services, as well as calling you to follow up on your progress.

Eligibility Details

Our services are available to Trafford residents aged 18 and over, or those registered with a GP in Trafford. 

Please note: we do not accept referrals from people with severe and enduring mental health issues. We have a strict inclusion/exclusion policy and are a primary care mental health commissioned service.

You can self-refer to the service by calling the number above. Health care and other professionals may also refer clients to the service by calling this number. All calls are answered by the Sanctuary coordinator who will either offer support via the telephone or if appropriate, can arrange a time for the client to visit the service in person.
