City Skills, Salford City College, is a specialist training establishment which aims to prepare young people and adults alike for careers in trades including painting and decorating, construction, motor vehicle trades, plumbing, gas and electric. They also specialise in apprenticeships.

City Skills is known for being one of the top training establishment in the North West for trades including construction, hair and beauty, motor vehicle studies and joinery - getting Salford people into practical and hands-on occupations. They pride themselves on their Centre of Excellence in Construction and Engineering as well as their incredible facilities.

The college has a rich history of success across all qualifications. Last year they secured an incredible 100% Advanced Vocational pass rate with a great percentage of high grades achieved.

Ofsted: “The college has established a culture of high aspirations for student achievement. The high grades students achieve enable them to gain places at the most prestigious universities.” 

In recent years, the college has invested substantially in creating real-life working environments, to best prepare students for employment. They have an exceptional, accredited BPEC Gas Training Centre, an accredited Whirlpool Training Centre, and are the only Worcester Bosch Gold Linked College in Greater Manchester.

Further to this, earlier this year City Skills opened their incredible, brand-new, motor vehicle workshop to support students on the motor vehicle studies course. 

The new workshop, which is fully stocked with quality tools of the trade, thanks to a unique partnership with Snap on Tools, is also supplied with cars for students to work with and this year already has proved to be a truly wonderful facilities for those who have has the opportunity to utilise it. 

The workshop was opened by very special guest, Roy Cavanagh MBE, from Seddon. Roy shared a few words in support of the new training facilities, he said:  “The motor vehicle workshop is a real, major plus for Salford as it’s vital that young people get proper training, and these facilities will help give them a real chance.

If you choose to begin your career in construction or engineering at City Skills, you’ll be taught by the best. Staff have extensive technical experience and well established industry links with partners across the region.

City Skills have an unrivalled reputation for progression. Many students have gained employment in construction and some have gone on to start their own, successful businesses, thanks to the support of staff at the college.

Staff are incredibly supportive and work with students to ensure that they develop not only practical skills required for industry but also employability and life skills.

Emphasis is put on everything from punctuality, to teamwork, problem solving, communication and ethics, as well as the practical and academic skills to get them where they need to be.

Students are given the opportunity to participate in work experience placements, competitions and a wide variety of trips and visits that both broaden their knowledge and develop their confidence in their chosen field.

For example, this year students attended the NEC Construction Trade Fair, providing them with important networking opportunities, and Worcester Bosch, for exclusive training on gas boilers.
