Singing for the brain - Old Trafford
What is Singing for the Brain?
Singing for the Brain is a stimulating group activity, for people in the early to moderate stages of dementia and their carers, which can help with general well being and confidence. You’ll meet others with similar experiences in a relaxed setting, and can join in a variety of songs, as much or as little as you like. The groups are run by our friendly staff and volunteers, and are led by a trained Singing for the Brain leader.
How can the sessions help?
- People with dementia may find that music encourages them to express positive feelings and emotions.
- Well-known songs can evoke memories, and people with dementia who have communication difficulties may find that the music helps to enhance their communication.
- The groups encourage movement through hand percussion and actions along to the music.
- Through coming along to the sessions, people with dementia and carers can strengthen existing relationships, share experiences and find support.
