Newly arrived families to Manchester bring with them hopes of a better life for themselves. On first arriving in the city, newly arrived families usually have few financial resources and face the pressing demands of obtaining accommodation and basic provisions and services in an unfamiliar environment. However competent they are, they can be overwhelmed and baffled by the need to navigate their way through the myriad bureaucratic processes and systems in place. This is made all the more difficult when they have little or no English language skill.
The Routes Project aims to support people through this initial difficult first step into living in Manchester. The Routes Project works in an holistic way which builds on existing strengths of newly arrived families, identified the needs of the whole family and seeks address these. There is a continuous relationship between caseworker and family which results in empathy, understanding and trust.
