Straight Talking Peer Education

Talking Peer Education employs teenage parents to run courses in secondary schools about the realities of early parenthood. This achieves a reduction in teenage pregnancy rates and allows teenage parents to access employment.

The courses are run by ‘peer educators’ who have themselves experienced what life is like as a teenage parent and are under the age of 25. This  approach uses young people from a similar age, background or social culture to inform others about an issue in a way that they can understand and relate to.

Peer Education is already happening in the school yard and on the internet. Straight Talking harnesses this power and places it in the controlled environment of the classroom, providing well-trained peer educators and accurate information.

Teaching young people about the implications and responsibilities of being a young parent, we encourage them to wait until they are in a stable relationship, economically independent and emotionally secure before becoming a parent.
