Social Communication and Complex Learning Difficulties Specialist Class

Acre Hall Primary School has 3 Small Specialist Classes (SSC) which specialise in social communication and complex learning difficulties. There is one class for reception / key stage 1 (infant) and two classes for key stage 2 (junior).

There are 10 pupils in each class and all pupils have EHC plans. Typically, pupils may have one of more difficulties on the autistic spectrum, mild learning difficulties and/or moderated behaviour problems, social/adjustment problems, immaturity and sensory difficulties.

Small Specialist Classes (SSC) in Trafford schools were created to ensure pupil's additional needs were met within a mainstream school. Staff are experienced and trained in the particular specialism of the class as well as general special and additional needs.

Pupils from the SSC often spend time in the bigger classes in the school when they show themselve able to cope with the social and educational demands of the mainstream class in particular areas of the curriculum.

Pupils from the SSCs are fully integrated into the general life of the school.
