Earlybirds @ St. Mary's

Earlybirds is the new name of St. Mary's Playgroup, which has been established for over 40 years and was registered in 1992. We provide a warm and caring environment for children to come to play and learn.

We have the use of St. Mary's Church hall, toilets, kitchen facilities and car park during opening hours. The pre-school playgroup is open Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 12.00pm during Trafford term times and a maximum of 28 children may attend at any one time. Please ring to check availability of places.

We offer a range of continous provision for the children including maths, mark making, dough, sand, water, ICT, a library area, construction, small world, role play, physical and creative activities. The children also have access to a secure, enclosed outdoor play area and we have free flow of play whenever possible. We follow the EYFS seven areas of learning and development.

The children are allocated a Key Person before they start at Playgroup and the key person and a member of management visit the child before they start with us. We have found that these home visits help the children to settle in more easily and also allows the parents time to fill in the necessary paperwork and ask any questions they may have.. All Key Persons are fully qualified Nursery Nurses and have many years of experience. Children can join us at the age of 2, but we also have a Pre-school Group for children who stay with us during their 'nursery' year which is led by our Early Years Teacher.

Local Offer

All early education providers in Trafford are expected to identify and support children with special educational needs to make the best possible progress. Please see our Local Offer report to find out more about the support we offer to children with Special Educational Needs or who are Disabled (SEND).

St Mary's Playgroup
Right so i'm writing this as the last day my daughter Natasha is in this fabulous place as shes going to school next year.. I can honestly say hand on heart this playgroup have worked wonders with Natasha and without her going here would have been so far behind.. The staff are amazing and from Natasha being 2 has gone to this playgroup which is so beneficial for them to mix with the slightly older children. There is always lots to do and have loved seeing all the fun things they do being brought home.. The one bad thing I would say is that i'm gutted I have no younger children to go here now .. I Will miss this playgroup very much.. I hope Natasha always remembers her time here as I think The time she has spent here has changed her into a different lovely child .. so THANK YOU !!!!
Great start to my childrens' learning
Both of my children have attended St Mary's Playgroup - my youngest is still there. They both loved their time there and I have been very impressed with the professionalism and expertise of the staff and the caring, nurturing environment they create. Thank you!
St Mary Playgroup is excellent. The playgroup leaders are warm and caring, very supportive to the children and their families. They work very hard to offer the children a wide range of learning experiences that are fun. My grandson has just left after a very happy year with them - thank you St Mary playgroup for all you do, you are stars!
St Mary's playgroup is great!
My son attended St Mary's playgroup for just over two years and he loved every minute. It was great to see him so excited at going each morning. He learnt so much and it prepared him well for his next stage in life of starting school. I think we will all hold dear the work and enthusiasm the team put in. I would recommend everyone with a young child to them, as they really deserve recognition for the work they do.
Paradise for Pre-schoolers!
We cannot recommend this delightful setting highly enough! It is in a beautiful airy building with a fantastic safe outdoor play area that is continuously available for the children. Our daughter had an amazing start to her education at St Mary's; joining in January 2017 and leaving at the end of the summer term to start school nursery in September.  The dedicated team, genuinely care about every child.  Our daughter settled in virtually immediately and was ALWAYS so excited that it was a nursery day! She has started school nursery this week and has found the transition effortless, bounding in with confidence and eagerness to learn and this is testament to the preparation that the staff at St Mary's put in place. We are only sorry that we didn't find St Mary's sooner so that she could have benefitted from the fantastic staff, care and provision.  Thank you everyone associated with St Mary's; we will never forget you!
St Mary's Playgroup
I had Sophie's name down for this playgroup since she was 6 months old, as I had heard how good it is. The playgroup is fabulous, there is plenty of equipment for the children, which caters for all abilities and imaginations. Sophie looks forward to attending Playgroup and she enjoys the Show and Tell session the best. All the Staff are very caring, knowledgeable of the EYFS and attentive to the children's needs. Hope they continue running for many more years.
St Mary's Playgroup
My daughter has been going to st Mary's since she was 2, she absolutely loves the creative play and is always coming home with pictures and models, the staff are very friendly and were extremely helpful in helping us get free funding for our daughter as she has a special need, I really feel this has been a great stepping stone to starting school nursery and feel confident in September that she will settle in with ease. They take regular pictures and keep a record of the children's progress which my husband and I love to look through every half term or so. The outside area is a great benefit to the Playgroup and I'm sure they will continue to make it better. My daughter loves the weekly dance lesson by a lady called Angela who comes in and am sure it has helped her confidence within the group. As the end of July nears closer I am getting more and more sad that she will be leaving to start school nursery, she has had an incredible year at st Mary's and an invaluable start to her education, thank you st Mary's for everything you have done x
Excellent playgroup
My eldest saughter mayzie has attended st marys playgroup for the last 2 years and sadly left today to go to school in september. Mayzie settled into playgroup really well and fast due to the really high standard or staff at the playgroup. As a family we were always made to feel welcome and could always discuss anything with them. Mayzie always came home happy with lots of little stories of what she had been learning during the morning. I feel really sad to say that it was her last day but in september my other little girl starts and if she loves it as much as mayzie did which im sure she will I will be one happy mum.
St Mary's Playgroup
My daughter attended playgroup for 2 years, having just left to start school. She looked forward to going everyday, enjoyed varying activities, particularly the dance sessions. She grew in confidence as a result of the caring and encouraging manner of the staff and the wonderful activites they take part in. The personal file is a lovely record of her early learning and development. Now my younger daughter can't wait until it is her turn to start!
St Mary's playgroup,Davyhulme
My eldest son aged 3, started playgroup in oct 2013 and he thoroughly enjoys his time at the playgroup he has made several friends and loves his teachers. His reports which he receives after every term have been a pleasure to read. He loves the outdoor play on the bikes and playing football. He will be very sad to leave this July to start primary school in sept. Since January 2014 his younger identical twin brothers started going 2 mornings a week as it was their first time at a setting their teachers were excellent reassuring them and helping them to gain confidence at settling within the group. By attending the playgroup both twins speech has come on tremendously. The teachers are very good at listening to parents/carers feedback and acting on it. The teachers are very professional especially when they have areas for concern they will ensure they speak to the parent/ carer in a private area.
Fabulous setting
Earlybirds is an amazing pre school setting. Both my children have attended with my youngest graduating this week. My children couldn't have had a better start to their early years education and this amazing setting helps make the transition to nusery class smooth. The staff are nurturing, caring and always have the best interests of the children at heart. They encourage the children to push themselves and achieve their full potential. There is a fabulous all weather outdoor play area which enables the children to have outdoor play in all weathers. The setting has good links with St Marys school and a significant number of children this year will be starting reception together again making transition to school easier. If you are thinking of sending your child to Earlybirds do it. It will be one of the best decisions you could make. Thnak you for everything. We will miss you.
