Old Trafford Youth Partnership Network

The Partnerships aim is to help create trusting relationships between youth services and provider organisations in order to deliver better services for young people, and to collectively attract resources to enhance the provision.

The Partnership Network will enable organisations to share ideas and best practice with each other, circulate information that  may be of interest, perhaps run activities, projects and workshops with or for each other, network, find out about funding opportunities, resources, etc. and, hopefully, meet up bi-monthly to keep connected. This process may also help us to collectively decide local priorities, shape services and help us to address any gaps in provision. Stakeholders will consist of Community, Voluntary, private and Statutory sector groups and young people. The strategic areas that we are hoping to cover are health, education, environment, economic and leisure.

Shaping Our Inclusion

GMCDP's Shaping Our Inclusion project is centered on working with young disabled people who are interested in activism, campaigning and leadership. We are working with young people (under 30) to get involved in the organisation and take on roles such as Executive Board members, leaders, trainers, representatives and activists. Having been around for over 30 years, GMCDP is looking to recruit young people who will become the future of this organisation.

Is this project for you?

Ideally, we are looking for young disabled people who:

  • Are aged 18-30
  • Live in Greater Manchester
  • Want to make a difference for disabled people in Greater Manchester
  • Who want to develop their skills in activism (e.g. leadership, project management, strategic thinking, representation, training and campaigning)
  • Are politically active (or would like to become more politically active)
  • Are willing to promote the Social Model of disability

What happens if I get involved with the project?

This project provides training and development opportunities throughout the year, and the areas participants can get involved in can be shaped by their own personal interests and experience. Below are just some of the areas you can get involved in:

  • Campaigning
  • Training
  • Leadership
  • Consulting
  • Strategic thinking
  • Journalism
  • Communications
  • Representation
  • Film making
  • Governance
  • Activism
  • Advocacy
  • Social media

...and lots more. The project meets every fortnight (alternate daytime and evening meetings, to allow everyone the opportunity to attend at least one meeting), and we discuss and plan our activities (e.g. upcoming campaigns) but also discuss our thoughts on current day politics, theory and positions of the coalition (e.g. our stance on inclusive education). These meetings tend to be very lively, interesting sessions, and more often than not take place over pizza.

Trafford Youth Cabinet

The Youth Cabinet is here to make the voice of young people heard loud and clear in Trafford. Our members are aged between 11 and 18 and each member lives, works or studies in Trafford. We normally meet weekly in term time at 4.30pm every  Wednesday at the Talkshop in Sale Waterside. Any member of the cabinet can represent the cabinet in any regional or national meeting or event and you would be reimbursed for transport costs for attending meetings.

The youth cabinet tries to ensure equal opportunity for ALL children and young people and does everything possible to ensure that any young person who wishes to be involved is able to do so. This may involve paying for child care costs, adaptations or special communication tools as required.

We're the Trafford Youth Cabinet, and we're your voice. Interested? Contact us to find out how you can get involved and have your say. You can also find out more by reading our blog.
