Our Service

Trafford Family Information Service (FIS) provides comprehensive, accurate, up to date information on childcare, activities and other local services which support children and young people up to the age of 19 years (25 years if the young person is disabled) and their families/carers. We are a free, impartial and confidential service.

We follow Trafford Council’s customer service standards laid out in the Customer Pledge. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your information.

Accessibility

We aim to make information easily accessible from a choice of locations and in different media and formats. You can access information online or you can contact us by telephone, email, post, Mincom or in person.

Information is also available on display boards and leaflets in children’s centres, libraries and other community venues across the Trafford borough.

Outreach

Our targeted outreach service aims to ensure our Information is accessible and meets the needs of the local community. The team consists of two outreach officers who cover their own geographical areas of Trafford, plus Parent Champion volunteers.

If you would like to meet one of our officers face to face to discuss your requirements, please contact us and we will be happy to arrange a meeting at a suitable community venue.

We can also offer support to other professionals working with children and families in Trafford by providing information and advice to support family events and offering training to staff teams.

Enhanced Service

We offer an enhanced service if you are unable to find childcare or services to meet your needs. This is also known as a brokerage service. We can discuss your requirements with you in more detail, perform an advanced search, find out details of the latest childcare places and contact childcare providers and services on your behalf. This service is primarily aimed at:

  • Families with a disabled child
  • Disabled parents
  • Families with English as a second language
  • Families new to the area
  • Families and practitioners who have contacted us but who have been unable to find childcare to suit their needs

Feedback

If you use our website, there is a feedback form for you to complete to let us know what you think. If you access our service in any other way, you will have the opportunity to complete a short online survey or paper questionnaire so you can provide feedback and make any comments.

We welcome all comments and suggestions and actively use them to continually improve and develop our service.
