It goes without saying that young children should be encouraged to be physically active as early as possible. This will help to create an active habit that has proven benefits around physical, social and emotional development as well as school readiness.
UK Chief Medical Officer Guidelines suggest that children aged 0 to 5 years who are capable of walking should be physically active for 180 minutes per day.
It is estimated that most pre-school children currently spend 120-150 minutes a day in physical activity, so achieving this guideline would mean adding another 30-60 minutes per day.
