Engage Trafford Mentoring Programme
Engage Trafford is an early intervention programme that is commissioned by Trafford Council, as part of their early help offer. We work with young people aged 8-18 (up to 25 if SEND), who reside in the borough of Trafford and provide support to those identified as: expressing low aspirations for their future, defined as being NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), struggle managing their anger, participating in negative and/or risk-taking behaviours, and expressing challenging behaviours at home and/or in school or college. Mentoring sessions are arranged weekly and are on average 1 hour in length, with the time young people spend on programme varying between 8-16 weeks (8-16 sessions). Most young people accessing the service receive 12 weeks worth of support (12 sessions).
Support is provided via place-based group work (2 staff members, max. of 8 young people – similar need and age) or 1:1’s, both of which are seen in equal measure in terms of the support the young people will be accessing. When a referral is received, the referrer will be asked for their preference and whilst we will try our absolute best to accommodate, we cannot guarantee which form of support the young person will receive.
Across the course of the programme, young people will focus on developing new skills and attitudes to promote their resilience, problem solving capabilities and increase aspirations. Thus, ensuring that the outcomes achieved can be sustained once their time on Engage Trafford comes to an end. To increase the likelihood of this, young people will be referred and introduced to a range of universal services, local community groups and clubs, allowing for a more effective transition away from professional involvement.
We deliver our services at the point of need, providing support at home, in school or other appropriate venues, such as community centres. All support and activities are free of charge.
